How does the 3090 compare with the 2080ti?

Currently, with Nvidia's new 3000 series lineup, the most powerful Graphics card came out, RTX 3090, taking the place of the new most powerful Graphics card from the RTX 2080Ti, so now let's see by what margins does the 3090 overpowers the 2080ti.

3090 SPECS
  • GA102-300 GPU
  • PCI-express 4.0
  • 10,496 CUDA cores
  • 328 Tensors cores (3rd Gen)
  • 82  Ray Tracing Cores (2nd Gen)
  • 24 GB GDDR6X VRAM
  • 1.4 GHz of Base Clock Speed
  • Up to 1.7 GHz of Boost Clock Speed
  • 350W TDP
  • 1 HDMI 2.1 and 3 Digital ports 1.4a outputs

2080Ti SPECS
  • TU102-300-K1-A1 GPU
  • PCI-Express 3.0
  • 4,352 CUDA cores
  • 544 Tensors Cores
  • 68 Ray Tracing Cores
  • 11 GB GDDR6 VRAM
  • 1.35 GHz of Base Clock Speed
  • Up to 1.545 of Boost Clock Speed
  • 260W TDP
  • 1 Display Port, 1 HDMI, and 1 USB type-C
With more than double the CUDA cores than 2080ti, 3090 overpowers 2080ti with ease, achieving an output of 36 TFLOPs compared to 14 TFLOPs of 2080ti
2080Ti has all its CUDA cores designed to handle floating-point(FP32) math with cores for integer (INT32) math. Compared to 3090 which has 5238 FP32 CUDA cores and 5238 CUDA cores,  that can do both FP32 and INT32.
3090 has a monstrous amount of VRAM, 24 GB of GDDR6X VRAM, with a wider bus, with a 1GB/s bandwidth, making it over a 50% increase over the 2080Ti
In testing 3090 is about 70% - 80% faster than 2080ti.
In size comparison, 3090 is quite a chunky boy, due to its cooling design. As with all this power and TDP, comes a lot of heat, so the 3090 solves it with its V-shaped PCB design with Nvidia's push-pull vapor chamber.
3090 can do 8K, and RTX 3080 which can do 4K at 60FPS with Ray Tracing, is clearly quite better when 2080ti can barely do 4K with Ray Tracing.
And with DLSS, 3090 is far better and capable of high resolution and high frame rates.
SO DO YOU NEED A 3090?
In simple words, NO, as most people which are using 1080p or 1440p monitors, a 3090 is a total overkill for the games and your wallet, it comes with quite a big price and when not in stock, the only way to get it through scalpers can go up to thousands of Dollars, if you wanna play your games at 4k or 8k, you can totally go for it, but even 3080 will do then job.
For 1080p or 1440p, even an RTX 2070 is fine, but better to go with 2070 S, not as pricy but is pretty good with performance.
SO IS 3090 THE MOST POWERFUL GRAPHICS CARD TO TILL DATE?
Well, Nvidia isn't the only one in the GPU market, a strong contender AMD with its RDNA 2 lineup, so for that comparison stay tuned for the new blog.
